Pinterest

How an agent creates Pins through uplika: one image or one video per Pin, the board it goes to, the default board, and what Pinterest's API does not offer.

These numbers come from the same file the server validates against. A Pin is exactly one image or one video; text alone is refused, and an image cannot be mixed with a video. The description holds 800 characters.

Which board does a Pin go to?

When you connect Pinterest you pick a default board. A Pin without options.pinterest.boardId goes there, and uplika writes that board onto the post when it is created, so a scheduled Pin still goes to the board you meant even if you change the default later. list_accounts lists each account's boards. A board made on Pinterest after connecting shows up after refresh_account. Secret boards are not listed.

How do I create my first Pin?

Call publish with one image or one video and a description. Give a title and an https link if you want the Pin to lead somewhere. Video Pins take a while to process, so pass wait: true and report the link only when the Pin is out.

curl -X POST https://api.uplika.com/v1/posts \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $UPLIKA_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "content": "Five desk setups that fit a small room.",
    "accountIds": ["conn_..."],
    "mediaIds": ["med_..."],
    "options": { "pinterest": { "title": "Small room desk setups", "link": "https://example.com/desks" } }
  }'

What options.pinterest takes

NameTypeDescription
boardIdstringThe id of the board to pin to, from list_accounts (pinterest.boards). Leave it out to use the board the person picked as the default when they connected Pinterest.
titlestringThe Pin title, up to 100 characters. The text (content) becomes the Pin description.
linkstringWhere the Pin goes when someone opens it. An https:// address, up to 2,048 characters.
altTextstringAlt text describing the image for people using screen readers, up to 500 characters.
isAiGeneratedbooleanThe image or video was made or changed with AI. Pinterest shows an AI label on the Pin. Uplika turns this on when an attached file is marked as AI-made.
coverMediaIdstringMedia id of a JPEG or PNG to use as the video Pin's cover. Video Pins only.
coverKeyFrameSecondsnumberWhich second of the video to use as the cover when coverMediaId is not given. Video Pins only. Leave both out and Pinterest picks the first frame.
contentstringText for this channel only. When set it replaces the shared content for this channel, and the length and media checks use it. Leave it out to use the shared content.

Generated from the same schema the server validates with. Like every channel it also takes content, a different text for this channel alone.

What is not available?

Comments and replies: Pinterest's API has none, so list_replies and reply answer that they cannot. Editing a Pin after it goes out: Pinterest offers that only to apps on its beta list. Carousels of several images. Metrics are impressions, reactions, comments and saves, and saves are returned in the reposts field.

Frequently asked

Why can't I pick a secret board?

uplika asks Pinterest only for permission to read boards, not secret ones, so secret boards are not in the list. Pin to a public board, or make the board public on Pinterest and refresh the account.

What happens if I delete my default board on Pinterest?

The next time the boards are read, the connection card shows that there is no default board and asks you to pick one. Until you do, a Pin that does not name a board is refused instead of going somewhere you did not choose.

Does disconnecting remove uplika from Pinterest?

Disconnecting deletes the tokens uplika held. Pinterest does not let apps revoke your sign-in themselves, so to remove uplika from your allowed apps too, open Pinterest Settings, then Security.
