Comment to DM: send a DM to everyone who comments

When someone comments on your post, uplika answers them in their DMs with a message, a link or a file. Set it up on the dashboard or ask your agent, test it from another account, and read every run.

Steps

  1. Step 1 Know what a comment to DM automation does

When someone comments on a post, the account replies to them privately in their DMs. On Instagram it can check that they follow you first. Then it delivers a message, a link or a file. Once it is on, it runs on uplika's server, even with your agent closed.

It works with: Instagram and Facebook accounts connected with DM permissions.

Meta rule: the account cannot start a DM. The private reply is the only automatic door; once the person answers, the 24-hour window opens for the rest.

Threads has no DMs. To answer comments in public instead, use Comment to public reply. It runs on: Instagram, Facebook, Threads and Naver Blog accounts. Replies under comments don't need DM permission on Instagram.

  2. Step 2 Connect the account with DM permissions

DMs and automations need Meta's messaging permissions on the connected account. On Connections, an account without them shows Reconnect for DM access. This connection was made without DM permissions. Reconnect it to use DMs, automations and the inbox. Publishing keeps working either way.

Click Reconnect on that account and approve every permission on Meta's screen. If the account connects through Facebook: On Meta's screen choose "Edit settings" and turn the new permissions on. "Continue with previous settings" does not add them. Your posts, automations and history stay where they are.

Until then, the account is locked in the automation form with Reconnect with DM permissions, and an agent gets reconsent_required.

  3. Step 3 Create one on the dashboard

Open Automation in the dashboard sidebar, click New automation and choose Comment to DM. The form goes through the parts below, with a phone preview of what the person will see.

Which post: pick the account, then A specific post, Any post or The next post I publish.

Which comment: Any comment, or Specific words that the comment has to match. You can also tick Also reply publicly under the comment.

What to send: under They will get, write the Private reply and its button. One message, sent once per comment, within 7 days of the comment. On Instagram you can tick Only deliver to followers. Under And then, they will get, add the message, link or file to deliver.

Finish with Save as draft to keep it off, or Go live to turn it on now.

  4. Step 4 Or ask your agent

Say what you want in one sentence: "DM everyone who comments LINK on my latest reel and send them our guide." The agent finds the post and creates the automation as a draft, which sends nothing.

Read the draft it shows you, ask for changes in plain words, and tell it to turn it on when it looks right. Automations your agent creates also appear under Automation, where you can edit them.

If you have more than one workspace, name the workspace in the same sentence.

  5. Step 5 Test it and read the runs

Make sure it shows Live, then comment on the post from a different account. Comments written by the connected account itself are ignored. If you set specific words, use one of them.

The same automation answers a given comment only once, so write a new comment to try again.

To see what happened, open the automation's menu and choose Runs. Each comment that started it is one run, with a status such as Done or Waiting for a tap. Open a run to see its Steps and why it stopped.

  6. Step 6 Turn it off or delete it

Open the automation's menu and choose Turn off. New comments no longer start it, and Turn on brings it back.

Delete removes it for good. Runs waiting for a button stop too. This cannot be undone.

You can also ask your agent to turn it off.
